For adventurous souls always ready to bag the next memorable experience, we bring you a delightful whirlwind tour of Banjul, the vibrant capital city of The Gambia. Gear up to taste the unadulterated African culture, soak in fiery sunsets over the Atlantic, and embark upon an unusual gastronomical journey. What's not to love about three days packed with such awesomeness?
Day 1 - Welcome to the African Rhythms
Kicking off our journey in Banjul, the first rendezvous with Africa's prowess is at Arch 22. You'll feel an awe-inspiring sense of arrival beneath this towering monument. After taking in panoramic views of the city, head to the Albert Market. A bustling and lively place, it's where you'll get a real sense of local life while shopping for colorful textiles, spices, tropical fruits and lot more. Next on our list is the National Museum, providing a glimpse into the country's history, culture and music. By evening, walk down to Senegambia Beach. Do take some time to sip on famous Gambian green tea as you marvel at the beautiful sunset. Let's wind up the day with a vibrant Gambian dance performance at the beachside bars.
Day 2 - Flavours of Gambia and a Taste of History
Our second day in Banjul celebrates the flavours of the city. The day starts with a private cooking class where you learn to whip up some traditional dishes. Ever tried Domoda or Caldo? Thanks to your cooking lesson, you'll be back home recreating some Gambian magic in your own kitchen! Post lunch, the afternoon is scheduled for a history-rich experience at Kunta Kinteh Island. It's a deeply moving reminder of the Atlantic slave trade and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As evening approaches, we sail on the Gambia River. Sunset cruises in Gambia are remarkable, giving you a chance to spot lovely birds and hippos. The day ends on a sweet note with a three-course Gambian dinner aboard the cruise.
Day 3 - Safari and Goodbyes
As our final day in Banjul unfolds, we head out for an early foray into the Abuko Nature Reserve. The tropical forest reserve is home to assorted wildlife including monkeys, lions and antelopes. After an adventurous morning, we return to the city to savour a relaxed lunch and head to the Throwing Star Fish Charity for some meaningful time. We take a tour of the establishment, interact with the local community and gain insights into their commendable work. We wrap up our explorations in Banjul with a soothing massage at a traditional spa. Finally, we enjoy a bonfire lit festive 'farewell dinner' while promoting local musicians. Thus, bringing our three-day Gambia adventure to a fulfilling end.
