Introduction
This itinerary of La Rioja, Argentina, will take you through a journey that perfectly marries nature and heritage. In three eventful days, we'll explore this breathtaking region known for its rich history and excellent wines.
Day 1 - Welcome to La Rioja
Hop onto a comfortable ride from La Rioja airport and gear up for an enchanting exploration of the city’s heritage. We'll start our journey with a visit to Plaza 25 de Mayo, a lively square with a memorial dedicated to Argentinian independence. Grab a quick bite here and don’t forget to sample those scrumptious empanadas. Switching from modern to old, we move to the nearby Museo Folklórico, a museum that encapsulates the local history within its stone walls. As the sun begins to set, we head to our cabbie and drive about 60km to the mesmerizing landscapes of Parque Nacional Talampaya, which also happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Concluding our day, we'll have our supper while marveling at the red sandstone cliffs dramatically lit up by the setting sun.
Day 2 - A Day Amidst Nature
Rise and shine early for a day dedicated to Mother Nature, starting with a hearty breakfast at the park. Our expedition begins at the heart of Parque Nacional Talampaya. Hold your breath as you journey through the ancient red cliffs that seem to touch the sky, bearing the marks of a bygone era. Following lunch, our visit takes us to an extraordinary lunar landscape, the Valle de la Luna(Valley of the Moon) in San Juan. This dry desert-like site, scattered with fossils, is nothing short of an open-air museum. As night falls and the stars light up the sky, we embark on a unique experience of stargazing, bringing our day amidst nature to a dramatic conclusion.
Day 3 - Discovering The Vineyards
No visit to La Rioja is complete without exploring its revered vineyards. Post breakfast, we board a countryside drive to the family-run Norton Winery. Spend your day learning about the art of winemaking followed by a much-awaited wine tasting session. Savor the exquisite flavors of Malbec and Torrontés as you tour the vineyard. Lunch, catered at the winery, is accompanied by a glass of your preferred wine. Spend the afternoon basking in delicious sun, wine in hand, surrounded by undulating vineyards before heading back to the city with unforgettable memories.
