Immerse yourself into the heavenly hot springs, shrines, lush forests and gastronomy delights of Ōita, Japan in this 3-day itinerary
Day 1 - Meet with the Heavens
Doesn't kicking off your adventure at a spiritual level sound appealing? Our divine day begins in the serene town of Beppu, home to Jigoku Meguri, a.k.a. the ‘Hells of Beppu'. These hot springs not only serve soothing relaxation but are a treat for your eyes with their unique colors like cobalt blue and blood red. And don't forget - it's a feast for your camera too! After unraveling the mysteries of these earthly 'hells', we'll fuel up with some authentic Beppu-style toriten (deep fried chicken), a local treat you can't afford to miss. To ensure we completely recharge ourselves for tomorrow’s exploration, we’ll end the day right by soaking at a traditional onsen (hot spring) while embracing the soothing night view. Remember, when in Ōita, do as the locals do!
Day 2 - Dive into the Divine
Rise and shine! Today we'll continue our divine trek through the mythical depths of the enchanting Usuki Stone Buddha site, a collection of ancient stone carvings. Are you ready to be humbled by the magnificence of these long standing beauties? After a hefty dose of history, we'll delve into Ōita’s lush outdoors at the Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, home to over 1,200 wild monkeys. Ever had a picnic lunch surrounded by friendly monkeys? Sounds quite the adventure, doesn't it? As the day comes to a close, we’ll make our way to the coastal city of Usuki, savouring a delicious seafood dinner (Izakaya style!) under the beauty of the starlit sky.
Day 3 - Journey through the Sacred
Ready for a spiritual climax? Day 3 starts with a peaceful trek through the divine Futago-ji Temple. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the temple's tranquil atmosphere will leave you feeling calm and centered. Had enough of tranquility? How about stimulating your senses with the rich aroma of sake in a local sake brewery? A sip of the local brew and you'll realize why it's beloved by the locals. As if going through a sensory journey, we’ll further our taste-bud adventures, concluding the day with a traditional Japanese multi-course kaiseki meal. A perfect ending to a divine adventure, don't you think?
