Introduction
Whip out your adventurous hat, because we're about to take a 3-day journey into the mystical land of Nevşehir, Turkey. Known for its unique rock formations, ancient caves and cities, and, of course, the spectacular hot air balloon rides, Nevşehir is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. This itinerary unravels the intriguing layers of this city, taking you on a journey that's part history, part culture, part food, and 100% fun!
Day 1 - Hovering Over History
Our first day in Nevşehir is all about its heart: Cappadocia. We start the day with Goreme Open Air Museum – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you'll explore centuries-old chapels and frescoes that narrate the story of early Christianity. Plus, did I mention that the entire thing is inside stunning rock formations? After lunch, take an afternoon stroll in Pasabag, also known as the Monks Valley. Whimsical fairy chimneys, hermit caves, and even hermit amenities from yore, it's like stepping into a history book! What's dinner, you ask? It’s at a local family's house for the traditional 'pottery kebab'. Delicious food and warm Turkish hospitality, isn't it the best way to end day 1?
Day 2 - Going Underground
Day 2 is all about the excitement of exploring the surreal underground world. Start the day at Kaymakli Underground City, the largest and deepest of Cappadocia's many subterranean settlements. Eight floors of underground city full of labyrinthine tunnels, cellars, stalls, and stables: don't tell me you don't find that thrilling! Post-lunch, we head to Derinkuyu Underground City, where you'll see ancient bedrooms, stables, and even a church! Ever thought you'd find a whole city under your feet? Rounding off day 2, we'll experience a traditional Turkish Hammam to relax those muscles and rejuvenate for the final day.
Day 3 - Soaring Above
The perfect ending to our Nevşehir adventure is a day among the clouds. Yes, you've guessed it! It's what you’ve been waiting for: the iconic hot air balloon ride. Imagine watching the sunrise as you soar above the stunning landscapes of Cappadocia... a Kodak moment if there ever was one! After landing, a hearty Turkish breakfast awaits. Next is a trip to the Pigeon Valley where hundreds of dovecotes carved into the cliffs come into view with grandeur. I bet it will give you at least one 'I can't believe this is real' moment!
