Introduction
An enchanting three-day journey through Salihli, a hidden gem nestled in the vibrant Manisa province of Turkey. This travel plan will take you to historical sites, natural wonders, and introduce you to Turkey's diverse and vibrant culinary scene, while providing ample time for rest and recreation in one of Turkey's most beautiful yet under-explored corner.
Day 1 – Getting Acquainted with Salihli
Our first day kicks off with a visit to the ancient city of Sardis, only about 7 kilometers from Salihli. Take in the fascinating Roman baths and Jewish synagogue, a highlight in this once capital of the Lydian kingdom. From there, we head to the Artemis Temple, dedicated to the Greek goddess. After absorbing historical richness, let's light up our taste buds at a traditional Turkish restaurant. Try their scrumptious Iskender kebab or a steaming plate of Manti, you won't regret it! Post-lunch, we will stroll towards the city center, including a visit to the vibrant local market. You could grab some Turkish delights! We would end the day with a relaxing dip in the Kursunlu Hot Springs – night bath anyone?
Day 2 – An Outdoor Adventure in the Heart of Nature
Starting early, brace yourselves for an exciting visit to the Golmarmara Lake. Isn't it mesmerizing to see how the blue sky and emerald water create a perfect postcard moment? Post-Golmarmara, we’ll pay a visit to Manisa National Park for a breath of fresh air. Don't miss out on the picnic opportunity! After lunch, there will be a journey down to the depths of the earth at the Demirhanlar Underground City. Always wondered how a living under the ground would feel, right? Post the subterranean adventure, we return to the city for a relaxed dinner and perhaps some shopping at the local markets.
Day 3 – Immersion in Salihli's Culture and Cuisine
Last day, we start with the famous Bozdağ Ski Center. Even if you don't ski, wouldn't walking around and sipping on delicious Turkish tea while wearing cozy mittens sound like fun? After a hearty lunch, we will sneak in a little surprise - a culinary class where you can get your hands on preparing authentic Turkish cuisine. Rolled up sleeves, ready? By evening, we’ll be back in the city center for one final saunter, reminiscing about the last three days. Don't forget to try Baklava for dessert!
